The Devonport Poultry Club Schools Shield

Over the last two years, the club has developed a schools program to encourage young people to become involved with breeding and raising poultry.
This involves setting the school up with housing and some chickens and food and water implements and some basic instructions on caring for their new enrolments.
A member from our club visits the school regularly to talk with the carers and answer any of their questions and will help prepare their birds for any approaching shows.
The school is encouraged to enter their birds in all of our shows and particularly at the Devonport Spring Show.
The schools receive points for each bird they enter, (whether they win a division or not) and then get bonus points if they receive a first, second, best etc.

The Devonport Spring Show gives the entrants double points and the winning school has their name inscribed on the Shield. The school then gets to keep the shield for 12 months.

Schools that are interesting in participating can ring Lorna Dick on 03 64284075 or write to the Secretary -
The Schools Program is sponsored by Ridley- Barastoc and Animal Tuckerbox.
